Mara Engai Lodge

Mara Engai Lodge is a luxury safari lodge located on the Oloololo (Siria) Escarpment overlooking the Maasai Mara National Reserve. Unlike many lodges situated on the plains, Mara Engai is perched approximately 1,000 feet (300 meters) above the Mara, offering one of the most panoramic views in the region. 

Location

The lodge sits within the Ravine Forest on the edge of the Mara Triangle, one of the best-managed sections of the Maasai Mara ecosystem. The Mara Triangle is known for:

  • Lower visitor density than some other areas of the reserve

  • Excellent wildlife management

  • High populations of lions, elephants, buffalo, leopards, and cheetahs

  • Prime viewing of the Great Migration between July and October.

Getting There

Most visitors fly from Wilson Airport to the Maasai Mara.

Typical travel:

  • Nairobi to Mara: approximately 45 minutes by air

  • Transfer from Serena Airstrip to the lodge: about 45 minutes by vehicle

  • From Kichwa Tembo Airstrip: roughly 1 hour

Driving from Nairobi is possible but takes significantly longer. 

Best Time to Visit

  • July–October: Great Migration, dramatic river crossings, peak wildlife viewing.

  • January–March: Dry season with excellent predator sightings.

  • April–June: Green season, fewer visitors, lush landscapes, attractive rates.

  • November–December: Short rains with good birdwatching and fewer crowds.
