Day by Day Itinerary

1

Arusha to Tarangire National Park

Your safari begins in the morning with a pick-up from your hotel in Arusha followed by a scenic drive toward Tarangire National Park, located about two hours away. The journey passes through Maasai villages, open plains, and rural landscapes that offer a glimpse into local life in northern Tanzania. Upon arrival at Tarangire, you will enter the park for a game drive across its vast savannah landscapes.

Tarangire is particularly famous for its large elephant populations, and sightings of herds moving gracefully through the park are common. Other wildlife often spotted include giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, impalas, and various antelope species. The Tarangire River attracts animals throughout the year, making it an excellent location for wildlife viewing. During the afternoon game drive, you will explore the park’s unique scenery characterized by giant baobab trees and seasonal swamps.

Later in the afternoon, you will exit the park and drive toward Karatu or the Lake Manyara area where you will check in at your lodge or camp. Dinner and overnight stay will be at the lodge.

2

Lake Manyara Full Day

After breakfast, depart for Lake Manyara National Park for a morning game drive. The park is famous for its lush groundwater forests, acacia woodlands, and the scenic alkaline lake that stretches along the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment. As you explore the park, you may encounter elephants moving through the forest, baboons along the roadside, and a variety of bird species including flamingos, pelicans, and storks along the lake shore.

Lake Manyara is also well known for its tree-climbing lions, although sightings are not guaranteed. The park’s diverse habitats make it an excellent destination for both wildlife and bird watching.

After the game drive and picnic lunch, continue the journey toward the Ngorongoro Highlands. The drive takes you through beautiful landscapes of rolling hills, coffee farms, and small villages before arriving near the crater rim. Check in at your lodge in the late afternoon where you can relax and enjoy views of the surrounding highlands. Dinner and overnight stay will be at the lodge.

3

Ngorongoro Crater Safari and Return to Arusha

After an early breakfast, descend approximately 600 meters into Ngorongoro Crater for a half-day game drive on the crater floor. Often referred to as Africa’s “Garden of Eden,” the crater hosts an extraordinary concentration of wildlife within a relatively small area. The fertile grasslands, freshwater springs, and soda lakes support a wide range of animals throughout the year.

During the game drive, you may encounter lions, elephants, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeests, hyenas, and various antelope species. Ngorongoro is also one of the best places in Tanzania to spot the endangered black rhino. Birdlife is abundant as well, with flamingos often seen along Lake Magadi within the crater.

After a picnic lunch near a hippo pool, ascend the crater walls and begin the drive back to Arusha. You will arrive in the late afternoon, marking the end of your memorable 3 days 2 Nights Tanzania safari.
