Day by Day Itinerary

DAY 1: NAIROBI – CHOGORIA – LAKE ELLIS CAMP (3,300 m)

Depart Nairobi early morning and drive east to Chogoria Town (approx. 5 hours). Continue by 4x4 vehicle through dense montane forest to the Chogoria Park Gate (2,850 m) for registration.
After lunch, start trekking along the scenic trail to Lake Ellis Camp, located beside the stunning alpine lake. The day’s hike provides breathtaking views of the Gorges Valley and the rolling moorlands of Mt. Kenya.

Meals: Lunch, Dinner
Overnight: Lake Ellis Camp (Tented Camp)

DAY 2: LAKE ELLIS – MINTOS CAMP (4,200 m)

After breakfast, continue trekking uphill through moorland vegetation. The trail gradually ascends to the Mintos Hut area, a spectacular camp overlooking the Gorges Valley.
From here, you can admire Lake Michaelson far below and enjoy one of the most scenic spots on the mountain. The afternoon is for rest and acclimatization.

DAY 3: MINTOS – POINT LENANA (4,985 m) – SHIPTON’S CAMP (4,200 m)

Wake up before dawn for your summit push. Start hiking around 2:30 a.m. to reach Point Lenana (4,985 m) at sunrise. Enjoy magnificent views across the Kenyan highlands, the Gorges Valley, and even Mount Kilimanjaro on a clear morning.
After celebrating your summit, descend via Simba Col into the Mackinder Valley to reach Shipton’s Camp for breakfast and a well-deserved rest.

DAY 4: SHIPTON’S CAMP – OLD MOSES CAMP (3,300 m)

After breakfast, descend through the picturesque Mackinder Valley, crossing moorlands dotted with giant lobelias and groundsels. Continue descending to Old Moses Camp, located just above the forest line.

Trekking time: 6 hours | Distance: 14 km
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Overnight: Old Moses Camp (Hut or Tent)

DAY 5: OLD MOSES – SIRIMON GATE – NANYUKI – NAIROBI

After breakfast, make a short, easy descent to Sirimon Gate (2,650 m). Meet your vehicle and transfer to Nanyuki for lunch, then continue to Nairobi, arriving late afternoon.

OLD MOSES – SIRIMON GATE – NANYUKI – NAIROBI
